organic

A legally defined term which describes produce from organic cultivation. If applied to industrial food manufacture and catering operations, only organic products may be used and flavor enhancers are excluded. Addition of aroma is allowed only if of natural origin.

The use of the term "organic" requires organic certification of the operation or trader. In Germany, organic labeling must name the control organization responsible and often includes the organic seal and the German abbreviation kbA.
