sick building syndrome

A building whose occupants experience ill-health or discomfort that appear to be linked to time spent there, but where no specific illness or cause can be identified. Effects may be limited to a particular room or area or may spread throughout the building. Sick building syndrome is generally associated with buildings that have fixed windows, air conditioning and low levels of humidity.
