surfactants

A main component of laundry detergent. Surfactants decrease surface tension and increase foaming, dispersion, emulsion and wetting properties of a product. Modern surfactants were developed at the beginning of the 20th century and have largely replaced soaps. They are also used in food technology as emulsifiers.
